Vice President
Professor George Ademowo is a globally recognised scholar, environmental and public health practitioner, and institutional leader whose 41 years of academic and professional engagement have established him as one of Africa's foremost authorities at the intersection of pharmacology, environmental science, and public health governance. His appointment to EPIN's Governing Council brings to bear the intellectual authority of one of Nigeria's most decorated academic practitioners.
Professor Ademowo holds a Bachelor's Degree (1985) and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics — the latter a qualification that underpins his world-renowned research in malariology, an area where his contributions continue to shape scientific understanding and public health response across the African continent. Appointed to the academic staff of the University of Ibadan in 1989, he ascended through the faculty ranks by sheer merit to become Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, in 2005 — one of Nigeria's most distinguished university chairs.
With over 130 peer-reviewed publications spanning environmental science, public health, and sustainable development policy, Professor Ademowo commands global scholarly respect. He holds memberships in some of the world's most prestigious learned societies, including the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the New York Academy of Science, the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (UK), and the West African Society of Pharmacology. He has served on committees at national and international levels and has delivered presentations at conferences across the globe.
As EPIN's Vice President, Professor Ademowo brings his scholarly networks and institutional gravitas to bear in support of the Institute's executive leadership — deputising for the President and Chairman of the Governing Council as required, and lending his stature to driving membership growth, safeguarding member welfare, and advancing the Institute's mentoring programme, ensuring that EPIN continues to attract, develop and retain Nigeria's finest environmental professionals.
