President & Chairman of the Governing Council

Dr. Adetokunbo Adedeji is one of Nigeria's most accomplished environmental and public health leaders — a practitioner whose career spans more than five decades of trailblazing service in EHS management, regulatory compliance, sustainability governance, and private sector environmental consulting. His trajectory from clinical medicine to the frontlines of environmental policy represents a remarkable career evolution that has left an indelible mark on Nigeria's regulatory landscape.

He holds an MBBS from Cairo University College of Medicine (1978) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the prestigious Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, USA (1990) — one of the world's leading public health institutions. He further consolidated his environmental expertise with a Diploma in Environmental Management from the British Safety Council, London (2002).

Dr. Adedeji's public sector career reached its pinnacle during his tenure as General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) from 1999 to 2004 — where he authored the Draft Policy on Environment for Lagos State (1997), a framework that continues to guide regulatory action today. He pioneered the Effluents Limitation Standards for Lagos State, established the Agency's first Hazardous Materials Management Department, and represented Africa at the World Environment Day celebration in San Francisco (2005), on the invitation of the United Nations Environment Programme. He also served as Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Waste to Wealth Projects (2004–2007), translating policy into tangible environmental outcomes for millions of Lagosians.

His continental engagements include membership on the 35-man Committee that developed the National Environmental Sanitation Policy adopted by Nigeria's Federal Government, and service on the National Sustainability Science Committee — both appointments made on the basis of personal merit. He currently serves as MD/CEO of ENVAP Consultancy Services Nigeria Limited.

As President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Adedeji presides over all meetings of the Governing Council, provides EPIN's highest level of institutional leadership, and champions the Institute's international profile-building agenda. Under his stewardship, EPIN continues to advance as Nigeria's foremost professional body for environmental practitioners, with a mandate that reaches well beyond national borders.
